For the pastry
225g plain flour
150g butter
1 level tablespoon caster sugar
1 small egg beaten
For the filling and decoration
550g golden syrup or dark syrup (not black treacle)
225g breadcrumbs using 2 3 day old bread
75g roast hazelnut roughly chopped
Juice and zest of 1 lemon
50g roast hazelnuts for decorating
1 egg yolk beaten with 1 dessertspoon of cold water for glazing
Preheat oven to gas mark 5 375
